Survival Of Raccoons – Relocation Research Results

This study was conducted in response to the common practice of trapping and relocating nuisance raccoons, researchers hoped to learn more about the fate of a wild animal once it had been removed from it’s native environment and relocated to another area. The raccoons in this study, as published in the Journal Of Wildlife Management in 1999, were trapped as nuisance wildlife in suburban Chicago and then relocated to a forest preserve. As the results of this and other studies show, relocation is not necessarily in the animal’s best interest. The Skunk Whisperer does not advocate the practice of trapping and relocation.
